Why choose Douglas Fir cladding?

  • Characterful — a warm reddish-brown colour and striking grain that brings real character to an elevation.
  • Strong & versatile— naturally strong, available in larger sections, suited to cladding, outbuildings and feature walls.
  • Value — an affordable, attractive softwood cladding.
  • Sustainable — PEFC-certified from responsibly managed forests.

How Douglas Fir weathers & finishing

Douglas Fir is dense and high in natural resin, which makes it difficult to treat — many people choose to let it weather naturally to a classic silver-grey, which gives a timeless, traditional look. If you'd rather hold its warm reddish-brown colour, a suitable UV-protection oil can be applied, though it benefits from good surface preparation given the resin content. Left to silver, it needs very little maintenance.

Profiles & fixing

We stock Douglas Fir in tongue & groove (TGV), shiplap and Yorkshire boarding (hit-and-miss) profiles, for horizontal or vertical fixing. Fix with stainless steel on battens with a ventilation gap behind; matched stainless fixing available.

Douglas Fir cladding cost per m²

Douglas Fir is one of the better-value cladding timbers — from around £46.40/m². See the boards above for live per-board pricing. For a naturally durable premium option, compare Western Red Cedar; for a thermally modified alternative, Thermowood pine cladding.
